My Credentials

Why would you retain me as your coach? Truth be told, anyone can claim to be a coach. Coaching is not currently regulated by state or national agencies. There are some things I have done, however, to be the best coach possible.

I have found my education and background a perfect fit for helping others reach their health and wellness goals. I am a Board Certified Coach (BCC). I obtained this certification through the Center for Credentialing and Education. It required a master’s degree (or higher) in the social or behavioral sciences, coach specific training (I was trained by The Institute for Life Coach Training), 200 hours of coaching experience, and passing a proctored examination. Additionally I am a graduate of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and the Wellness Coaching program of the world renowned Mayo Clinic.

I am a Certified Wellness Practitioner (CWP), a designation offered by the National Wellness Institute. This certification means I have professional competency and commitment to continued scholarship and professional development. A CWP is qualified—through graduation from an NWI Accredited Academic Program or through documented, supervised experience—to utilize effective health promotion models to assess needs and subsequently design, implement, and evaluate interventions for individuals and populations; apply current theories and models to motivate others to engage in health promotion and prevention activities; and create health-enhancing environments through the initiation of organizational and cultural change.

My experience as a minister for almost a decade is very complimentary to my style as a coach. I am open-minded and non-judgmental and will listen intensely to you.

My experience as an educator is also relevant. I was a professor and administrator in higher education for 17 years. While my role as coach is not to teach all the time, there are instances where educating is very appropriate. Because of my educational background, it has been drilled into me to keep up with the latest trends and issues in my area of expertise. I do this happily in the area of coaching.

I have earned the following degrees:

Doctor of Ministry (DMin)
Pastoral Counseling Emphasis
Meadville Lombard Theological School, Chicago, IL

Doctor of Education (EdD)
Education & Counseling
University of North Texas, Denton, TX

Master of Science (MS)
Training and Development
University of North Texas, Denton, TX

Master of Theological Studies (MTS)
History of Religions
Vanderbilt University Divinity School, Nashville, TN

Bachelor of Arts (BA)
History and Religion
Texas Christian University, Fort Worth, TX

I have been told, by some, that my education can be a little intimidating to some people. They believe I might not relate well to them or that I will “get all religious” on them. Let me assure you this will not be the case. My background will only benefit you. We will work together, I will be your ally, toward better health and wellness. I want you to be so pleased with your experience that you will tell others, just like these people have.

So, let’s start working together now! Email me (russell at ministerofhealth dot org) and we’ll have our initial conversation. This will be the first step in improving your health. You’ll be glad you did!
